HIGHLY rated veteran chaser Fun Boss stands in the way of an onslaught from Chris Halse’s kennel in next weekend’s Group 3 Mandurah Cup (490m) following the heats at Tabtouch Park on Friday evening.

Fun Boss has been a consistent threat at top level racing in this state for the better part of two years and confirmed his status with an impressive victory in what was the most competitive heat of the night.

The Cheryl Isaac-trained race dog, now a winner of 29 career starts and more than $200,000 in stakes, will enter the Group 3 final as the fastest qualifier.

After seizing the lead in the early stages, Fun Boss set a cracking pace out on the bunny before flashing across the line two lengths ahead of the fast finishing Ramifications in very slick 27.48.

The result prevented a clean sweep for Halse, WA’s leading trainer, who claimed the other three heats with Pepper Fire, Who’s Got Blue and Who’s Driving.

SA Oaks winner Pepper Fire was in supreme touch in her heat, launching beautifully out of the traps to bounce straight to the lead before storming away to win by eight lengths.

Who’s Got Blue had to work harder after he handed the lead over to Dawkins Bale mid-race but kicked again in the home straight to edge ahead in the shadows of the post to score by a head.

Former Victorian chaser Who’s Driving broke a five race losing sequence in what was his first time around the Peel track.

Who’s Driving landed behind the leaders out of the pink but worked his way in the race with his big loping strides, powering to the front at the business before surging away to win by more than two lengths.
