This year there were awards for the best under 17 riders, which was to encourage the younger riders.

Conor Leahy was the standout performer. He is an under 17 rider who started the criterium season in C grade.

His winning ways resulted in him being promoted first to B and then to A grade.

Once the road season started Leahy started winning A grade. He was Road Rider of the Year, best under 17 Road Rider, second in the Criterium Rider of the Year and second in the under 17 Criterium Rider.

He was also second in the Bonser TT Series and equal second in the Brian Whiteway 2 Up TT series. Baden Gray, an under 13 rider, was dominant in the E grade criteriums and recorded a number of good results when racing much older riders in D grade to secure Criterium Rider of the Year and the under 17 Criterium Rider.

It was not all young riders though. Ron McArthur, who is almost 50 years older than Leahy, returned to racing after a decade off.

McArthur was second in the Brian Whiteway solo TT series and second in Road Rider of the year.

Colin Rose, another experienced rider, took both time trial series, the Bonser and Brian Whiteway Criterium racing starts this Sunday in Pinjarra.
