MANDURAH surfers Macklin (12) and Ace (8) Flynn will surf with 350 groms from around Australia in the Hurley BL Blast Off in NSW.

The boys will compete at Palm Beach, Whale Beach and Avalon from October 2 to 5.

Macklin has been surfing for nine years and recently came fourth in the Billabong Parkos Grom Stomp.

“I participated in the Hurley BL Blast Off last year which was super fun and I wanted to return this year also with a goal of winning my division,” he said.

“I’ve been training hard this year with my high performance coaches so I’m feeling good coming into this event.”

Macklin said the The Hurley BL Blast Off was different from most other events.

“It’s not so much a contest but more about all the kids enjoying the event and taking something positive out of it,” he said.

“From things like just having Barton Lynch on the beach all day and the experience and energy he brings is like no other event.”

Macklin aspires to win a national level surfing event this year and his long term goal is to compete at the highest level in surfing.

Ace has been surfing for five years and is training in some “epic waves” at Margaret River this week.

“I’m always trying to surf as much as possible in all conditions as you never know what the waves will be like on the day of the event,” he said.

“This will be my first year in the event.

“I’m super pumped to be heading over to Sydney for such a fun event.”

Ace’s goal is to keep improving.

“I’m always looking for that one wave that has a good barrel so maybe that’s a good goal,” he said.

“If I get a barrel in the event I reckon that’ll be a good score.”
