Mandurah surfers shine at 2018 Taj Small Fries

MANDURAH residents Maverick Wilson and Macklin Flynn were among the competitors at the 2018 Taj Small Fries competition at Smiths Beach on Sunday (January 21).

Wilson competed in the 10 and under mixed category and came fourth with a total score of 10.25.

Flynn competed in the 12 and under boys section and came fourth with a total score of 7.25

For the first time in Small Fries 13-year history, the event utilised Smith’s Reef with the move serving up picture perfect conditions for the event finalists.

In between commentating the finals, WA surfer Taj Burrow gave out free haircuts, his trademark mohawk the flavour of the day with the grommets.

“It’s such a dreamy day down here, I was a bit nervous this morning when we made the call, but the waves have really turned on,” Burrow said.

“It’s just been the most perfect location for a comp, I can’t believe that we’ve never held the event here before.

“I couldn’t be happier with how things have gone in 2018 and long live the Small Fries.”
