MANDURAH Swimming Club member Sean Alcorn (12) has been named in the WA squad for the School Sport Australian Championships in Melbourne in July and August.

Sean is one of the top seeds in the 50m and 100m butterfly and will be racing the best in Australia.

He has been swimming with the Mandurah club for two years and trains six times a week (about 13 hours).

Sean started the year off with six gold and two silver medals at the Country Championships in Perth, competing against the top swimmers from WA country clubs.

He followed this up with a dominant performance at Country Pennants in Karratha with three gold and a silver in A grade and winning a closest to the state record trophy for his 50 fly.

In his debut for Mandurah Catholic College, Sean won the Under 13 Champion titles at school, interschool, and all divisions levels, making it on the ACC All Star Team.

At the junior state championships in April, Sean won both the 50 and 100 butterfly golds as well as winning a bronze in the 200 individual medley.

Sean said he loved swimming because it made him feel relaxed, smooth and powerful.

He said he felt proud to make the WA squad and at the championships he hopes to win an individual medal.

“I will be competing in butterfly, freestyle, backstroke and individual medley,” he said.

“My goal in swimming is to be one of the best in my state and one day race for Australia.”
