Peel athletes return from Australian Little Athletics Championship with medals

TWO Peel athletes, Kaitlyn Billing and Christian-Lucas Izaguirre, have been selected to represent WA at the Australian Little Athletics Championship in Sydney later this month.

Kaitlyn won gold in the under 13 girl’s triple jump and long jump while Christian won silver in the under 15 boys javelin and bronze in the 300 metre hurdles.

Christian was also selected for the Australian team that will compete in Singapore later this year.

Thirty-four athletes from Peel qualified for the three-day State event at the WA Athletics Stadium after taking part in a regional competition, hosted by the Peel Districts Little Athletics Club earlier in the month.

Under nine boy Jayke Cooper received gold in 200m and bronze in 800m.

Under-10 girl Rachel Padfield received gold in high jump and bronze in triple-jump.

Meanwhile, three Peel athletes won a swag of medals at the regional championships.

Under-7 boy Tahj Bombardieri received silver in discus.

Under-8 girl Paris Spencer received silver in long jump and bronze in 100m and 200m.

Under-8 girl Indie-Anna Steele received silver in shotput and bronze in 60m Hurdles and 70m.

Young athletes from Cockburn, Baldivis, Dale, Kwinana and Rockingham also competed in the championships.
