PEEL District Cycling Club summer series started on Sunday with the season’s first time trial at Hopelands.

Riders were pleasantly surprised by the lack of a sea breeze.

A few new faces competed with veteran riders of previous years.

The fastest rider on the day was Colin Rose, who covered the 16km in 22 minutes and two seconds, an average of 43.5km/h.

The slowest rider took more than 35 minutes at 27km/h to complete the race.

A prize is awarded for the fastest rider over the series of six time trials, as well as the most consistent rider of the series.

The criterium series will return next week at Smeaton Way.

The next time trial will run on December 31.
