Peel Football League umpire Bob McDonald hangs up boots after 63 years in footy

The 82-year-old retired after umpiring more than 2000 games for the WA Football League and Peel Football League.

He played more than 300 games in the WAFL and amateur league.

McDonald is a life member of Peel Football Umpires Association.

He started out in the WAFL as a player back in 1953.

A Peel Football League spokesman said McDonald was an esteemed goal umpire.

“For him to still be involved in the game through to 2016 is truly amazing and a testament to his strength, ability, fitness, character and love of Australian Rules football in WA,” he said.

“Bob will be sorely missed and we hope you can still be around the place to mentor our next batch of goalies coming through.

“Bob’s stats with the PFUA were 171 league, 182 reserves and 82 colts games for a total of 435 matches in the Peel Football League.

“Well done on an amazing football career, Bob.”
