IT looks like finals football will be a reality for the second year in a row for Peel Thunder as they secured a 35-point win over East Perth at Leederville Oval on Saturday.
Best-on-ground performances from Matt de Boer (39 disposals) and Tendai Mzungu (35 disposals) led the way for the Thunder as they cruised to the 13.11 (89) to 7.11 (53) win.
However, things looked like an uphill struggle early for Peel as they went into the first break five points down, but a five goals to two second term helped the side establish a handy buffer.
They then piled on five unanswered goals in the third term to take a 41-point lead into the final change.
The Royals claimed the final term but were not good enough on the day.
Jack Hannath, Matt Taberner, Jon Grffin and Traye Bennell each bagged two goals while Rory O’Brien, Blair Bell, Andrew Haydon, Gerald Ugle and Mzungu all grabbed singles.
Peel are now comfortably nestled in the top five, fourth on the table, one win behind third placed West Perth and two games clear of the sixth-placed Sharks.
The news was not so great for the Reserves, going down 21.15 (141) to 7.3 (45).
Luke Shepherd booted three goals while Corey Morris was the leading possession getter with 25.
The Colts also faltered 13.7 (85) to 6.6 (42) with Michael Stevens starring with three goals and 23 disposals.
Peel has the bye next week before returning at home against Subiaco.
