PEEL Thunder’s most decorated player, Rory O’Brien, has announced his retirement.

O’Brien was one of the WAFL’s greatest players and ends his career after back-to-back premierships with the Thunder.

During his career, O’Brien was honoured with five Fairest and Best awards (two Tuckey Medals and three Lynn Medals), the 2013 Sandover Medal, 2004 Colts premiership as joint captain, represented the state in 2013-14 and was captain of East Fremantle in 2014 and 2015.

Peel Thunder league coach Cam Shepherd said O’Brien had been a great player over many years at both Peel Thunder and East Fremantle.

“Whilst he has won accolades as a five times Fairest and Best winner and a Sandover Medallist, it is as a dual premiership player that I will fondly remember him,” Shepherd said.

“His character and professionalism epitomised him as a player.

“He has been so important in driving the standards of our group whilst building the bonds that have made our team great.”
