The talented chaser, now under the guidance of John Graham, had been racing without success on the east coast since he claimed his biggest career victory in the Group 3 Birthday Cup on the Peel circuit in January.

In his first run back on his favourite racetrack, Special Pup immediately found form again and he has now claimed 13 of 16 starts over the 400 journey on this surface.

Mid-field in the early stages of the race Special Pup worked his way forward and he edged ahead at the business endto score by nearly two lengths in 22.79.

Another racedog that was able to find a way back into the winner’s circle was Horsley Bale.

The Kylie Mclennan-trained chaser recorded a rare victory in the Grade 4/5 (490m).

Horsley Bale took control of the race from the fast starting Screamin’ and was then able to hold out that greyhound in the closing stages to score by a nose in 28.07.

It was only the sixth time that Horsley Bale has saluted the judges in 54 attempts.
