His passion for the sport began when his grandmother bought him a bodyboard for Christmas.

Now he is carving out a position as a role model for young people who aspire to excel in bodyboarding and surfing.

Blackwell’s achievements include six state bodyboarding titles in six years, a ranking of ninth in Australia and a national title win.

He is pursuing a dream of becoming a professional bodyboarder on the Australian and world tours.

Helping him along the way is a recent sponsorship deal.

When he isn’t training, managing his school work and working at his part-time job, Blackwell captures photos and video footage to promote his sport.

Most importantly to Blackwell, he is an active member of Mandurah Bodyboarding Club, where he enjoys mentoring and supporting younger members.

He was nominated as a HBF Hero for his dedication to his sport and for demonstrating that anything is possible.

Despite his travels to some of the world’s best bodyboarding locations, the 17-year-old still lists Mandurah Wedge as his favourite break, having caught his first great wave there.
