After bouncing back to form with an impressive win in the previous week’s heats, Sable Island brought a similarly powerful performance into the final to take out the trophy.

Sable Island launched from the red and was able to place herself into a good field position even as Mulwee Grand jumped out to a handy break in the early stages.

When Mulwee Grand ran out of steam in the home straight Sable Island was ready to pounce and she stormed to the front to win by three quarters of a length in 27.54.

Sable Island has now saluted in ten of 42 career starts and has banked more than $34,500 in stakes.

Halse recorded two more wins on the night with West OnFlicka and West On Sally.

West OnFlicka snapped a nine-race losing run when she came from midfield to score in the Elders Insurance Grade 5 (490m).

In the skyracing.tv Grade 4 (405m) West On Sally stalked the leading Tyrion Monelli before taking charge at the business end to cross the line two lengths ahead in 22.79.
