SBL: Mandurah Magic women mount finals charge as men lose again

Declan ByrneMandurah Coastal Times

A DOMINANT second half from the Mandurah Magic women’s team helped them secure a 79-54 win over East Perth Eagles on Saturday night.

The teams were level at quarter time and halftime before the Magic returned from the break intent on piling on scoreboard pressure.

The 22 point to 11 point period set up the win for Mandurah as they mount a charge toward finals.

Adijat Adams was again the chief destroyer for the visitors, scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds in the 25-point victory. She was well supported by Annette Davis (19 points and six rebounds) and Emma Klasztorny (19 points and five rebounds).

The result places the women in ninth position; however, they are on the same number of points as sixth-placed Lakeside Lightning.

The news was not as good for the men as they posted their fourth straight loss, falling to the Eagles 106-70.

They were never in the contest against the tenth-placed Eagles, trailing at every change in the 36-point loss.

Ben Smith was Mandurah’s best with 21 points and six rebounds, while Trevor Setty’s output was not as high as usual with 14 points and five rebounds.

Next up for Mandurah is a trip up the Freeway to take on Joondalup on Saturday night.

The Wolves are currently first in the men’s league and second in the women’s league.

Tip off for the women will be at 6pm, with the men getting underway at 8pm.
