Surfers relish Trigg waves: Rip Curl GromSearch

SIX champions were crowned in great waves off Trigg Beach as the third and final day of the Rip Curl GromSearch wrapped up in style this month.

Bicton’s Alex McGuffin was fourth in an enthralling battle for the blue-ribbon 16 and under boys event, which was won by Yallingup’s Jack Thomas.

Perth’s metropolitan beaches delivered high performance two-to- three-feet peaks, which enabled competitors to display a full repertoire of committed manoeuvres.

Trigg threw up quality right and left-hand waves that were perfectly suited to both natural footers and goofy footers alike.

With sunny skies and highly contestable waves on offer for much of the event, Rip Curl events manager Mark Flanagan was again delighted with how the third event of the national series rolled out.

“We love coming to West Oz,” Flanagan said.

“We’ve got some great waves on offer and WA has been a location that has shown great support of the GromSearch event over the years.”

The five-event series will head next to Yorkes Peninsula (SA) and the Sunshine Coast (Queensland) after kicking off the series at Maroubra (NSW).
