Surfing: Mandurah triumvirate performs strongly at WA Pro Am Series in Margaret River

Victoria RificiMandurah Coastal Times

MANDURAH residents April McPherson, Josh Harrington and Sheldon Spencer all placed at the WA Pro Am Series Champion surfing event at Gas Bay in Margaret River on Sunday .

Unfortunately, the surf-rich Margaret River region didn’t deliver great weekend waves, with surfers from around the state battling through tricky windswept peaks.

McPherson competed in the Open Women’s tournament and came second after finishing with a score of 20.3 out of a possible 30.

Harrington competed in the Over 35s Masters and scored second place after finishing with a score of 24.57.

Spencer competed in the Over 55s Kahunas and finished with a score of 20.53 and fifth place.

Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks commended all the competitors for battling through some tough conditions and congratulated the opening round winners.

“We successfully implemented a priority system for the first time at the Pro Am Series,” Majeks said.

“It was rewarding to see multiple generations of West Australian surfers competing so well in testing conditions.”
