WACA Premier Cricket: Rockingham-Mandurah facing defeat against Willetton

ROCKINGHAM-Mandurah have it all to do on day two of its round 13 WA Premier Cricket match against Willetton this Saturday

The Mariners first innings total of 168 is within reach of the Dragons, who turned up the heat from the beginning at Burrendah Reserve.

Captain Craig Simmons won the toss for the visitors and batted but top order starts were not converted into something that would threaten Willetton.

Tyler Robertson, recalled through his recent all-round performances in seconds, made a solid 27 and Vincent Poller made 26 as Rockingham-Mandurah were placed to pounce at 1-47.

The highest partnership came for the seventh wicket with Simmons and Dane Ugle (22) motoring along for 71 runs at better than a run-a-ball.

The long-time skipper bashed 53 from 31 balls with six boundaries and three sixes, including a monster shot that hit the top of a floodlight.

His wicket signalled the beginning of the end as the last four Mariners wickets fell for just one run with half a day of play remaining.

Willetton cautiously accrued runs and absorbed 48 overs to sit pretty at 4-133.

Rockingham-Mandurah’s spinners did the damage with Robertson claiming 2-44 and Simmons rolling out 19 overs with eight maidens for a return of 1-22.
