Dads team up for baby bottle invention

Aaron CorlettMelville Gazette

TWO long-time friends hope their baby bottle invention can provide a saving grace for time-poor new parents.

Applecross dads Ricky Hee and Alex Djojoutomo have come up with the electronic device the Bottle Bath, an all-in-one bottle washer, steriliser and dryer that is winning over investors via Kickstarter.

Mr Hee said the concept came while the duo sat on a plane together, headed for a wedding, discussing the difficulties of preparing baby bottles for formula and expressed breast milk.

“We were whining a lot about parenthood and we shared a common pain point whereby we were waking up in the middle of the night washing bottles,” he said.

“Two weeks after the trip, we said ‘is there something we can do about it’ and Alex was looking online for the three in one but we couldn’t find any.”

The duo have invested four years on their project and are up to their third prototype.

They have raised more than $85,000 as part of their Kickstarter and next year intend to offer online pre-orders and roadshows to enhance awareness of their Bottle Bath.

“This is such a novelty product that no one knows, there is now a three-in-one that is available but now we need to go to parents,” he said.

“We are looking to start shipping in July 2020, only because from now until then we have to do two or three more prototypes before we do a mass production.

“Before you manufacture thousands, you want to make sure every single little crease is ironed out.”
