SMALL business owners in the Melville area now have access to a co-op focusing on member support, fortnightly networking sessions and the sharing of information and resources.

The Melville chapter of District 32 is one of eight now up and running in Perth.

District 32 director Lorraine Garvie said small businesses were the backbone of the WA economy.

“With the mining sector in its second consecutive period of contraction, the Perth economy must look elsewhere to rebuild,” she said.

“We have to do all we can to keep supporting local small businesses in Perth and this is what we aim to do.

“We chose Melville as one of our existing members, who is a financial planner, didn’t have a local business networking group close to him so we thought we would start one.

“Having the lunchtime events has also been welcomed by many as it takes away the crazy morning rush and is much better for family businesses that are also juggling kids and school drop-offs.”

The District 32 Melville group meets on a fortnightly basis at a restaurant in Applecross.

The meetings include a presentation from a local Perth business owner, networking and lunch.
