A GROUP of artists based at the Heathcote Cultural Precinct in Applecross are putting on their first exhibition.

Members of the Swan River Print Studio will showcase their work at the Earlywork Gallery in South Fremantle from February 9 to 17.

The group was formed in January 2018 as a way for artists to access professional printmaking facilities.

Fremantle artist Jo Darvall said the group included nine artists who got together for workshops throughout last year.

“The workshops also allow for people to come in and learn,” she said.

“I was teaching at the Fremantle Arts Centre along with Annemie (McAuliffe) and Bethwyn (Porter) but we realised we outgrew the facilities.

“We were able to get a giant press from the old Tafe in Newman, which allows us to have 24-hour access to it.”

Darvall said the group was excited about displaying their work this week.

“Hopefully the community will come in and check out the exhibition,” she said.

“There’s lots of different themes and techniques on display in the exhibition.”
