Big shot gets big win

Jon Hewson was last week acknowledged for his silhouette image with a Community Newspapers of Australia award for Best Sports Photo.

Hewson collected his latest accolade at the CNA Southern Division Awards held in Melbourne on June 19.

Judges described Hewson's award-winning silhouette image of a BMX rider in full flight as "impeccable use of light and shadows… Art and sport melded into one."

Hewson is a long-time Community Newspaper Group photographer who recently joined the Melville Times.

Former Melville Times photographer Martin Kennealey was named runner-up in Best News Photo for his image of a Santa Maria College student and her dad at a father and daughter breakfast.
