Hells bells ringing in birthdays

Local outfit Hells Bells are putting on a show to celebrate what would be former lead singer Bon Scott's 69th birthday.

"Bon would have been 69 on July 9 this year, so we're going to have a party for him on the 10th at the Leopold Hotel, Canning Highway," lead guitarist Mal Osborne said.

The gig will be presented by Bon Scott Fans WA to celebrate the life of the former Fremantle resident, and supported by bands Legs Electric and the Maddcatz.

Both bands will also play a Bon song or two in their sets and will probably join Hells Bells on stage for an encore or two.

The five-piece cover band are celebrating their own 10th birthday, after coming together from different bands in 2005.

There is a mixture of backgrounds in the band, with members hailing from Spearwood, Southern River, Gosnells, Atwell and Maylands.

"I had been mates with bass player Paul Eckermann and drummer Glenn Warber for years when we played in original bands," Osborne said.

"We were getting too old to be in the original scene and recruited the other guys knowing they could do this really well.

"It paid off and we are all still close mates and we do it for the love of playing AC/DC."

The band have become well known among WA's accadacca fraternity, playing more than 300 gigs including parties, weddings, divorces, wakes, pubs and festivals.
