Multi-award winning clarinettist Ashley Smith is an Assistant Professor at the University of WA and an internationally demanded soloist and chamber musician.

His performance of Lachlan Skipworth’s Clarinet Concerto with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra was awarded the APRA 2015 Performance of the Year, and he has won numerous awards and fellowships.

He will play the exquisite slow movement from Brahms’ Clarinet Sonata in F minor Op 120 as well as a Fantasie on themes from Verdi’s La Traviata.

Ashley will be joined by soprano Alexandra Bak to perform Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock, D.965.

Written in the last few months of Schubert’s life, the work was written as a concert showpiece and gives equal voice to the singer and clarinettist.

Bak will also perform a selection of songs and arias, accompanied by pianist Lea Hayward.

Entry is by $25 donation, payable at the door, and supper is served after the concert.
