Research centre opens at St John of God Murdoch

Hospital leaders said the centre aimed to engage in research that would benefit varying community groups including after cancer care for women, tissue banking, the provision of palliative care and post natal screening for anxiety and depression.’

One program underway is the Women’s Wellness after Cancer Program, which was recently awarded a $1.168 million grant from National Health and Medical Research Institute (NHMRC).

The program is an online health promotion program, using internet and Smartphone technology, to give cancer survivors evidence-based information to maximise their health after cancer treatment.

Chair of Nursing Leanne Monterosso said the hospital would employ a dedicated research cancer nurse to recruit women to the study and manage the practical aspects of the project.
