ACAS, based at Atwell House in Canning Highway, Alfred Cove, is celebrating its 38th anniversary this year.

Its annual Awards of Excellence was established in 2000 to encourage members to strive for excellence.

Since then the society's enthusiastic and talented artists have risen to the challenge, each year entering a large number of high quality paintings.

Over the past 15 years, the Annual Awards Exhibitions have been well attended by hundreds of art lovers enjoying the high standard of work presented, with many taking the opportunity to buy paintings on display.

ACAS also holds monthly meetings with demonstrations by well-known artists, including Drewfus Gates, Ian de Souza, Kylie Porter, Jacinda Bayne, D'hange Yammanee, Carmen McFaull, Peter Ciemitis, Lucy Papalia, Andrew Tischler and Jack Van Bruchem, gallery visits, paint outs, painting trips, camps, and exhibitions.

Its artists also participate in community events such as Art in the Park at Araluen Botanic Park and many exhibit work in other open art awards and exhibitions in both Perth and Regional areas, with many of them winning prizes.

Practicing artists, as well as those interested in art, are welcome to join the society and take part in its activities.

Members come not only from suburbs near Alfred Cove but also as far afield as Swan View, Woodvale, Cottesloe and Mandurah.
