Alfred Cove Action Group to campaign against proposed wave park in Melville

Jaime ShurmerMelville Gazette

THE Alfred Cove Action Group will hold a sausage sizzle in Attadale on Saturday to fundraise their campaign against the proposed wave park for Tompkins Park.

The action group will sell t-shirts for $10 donations towards their campaign.

The group has raised concerns about the wave park’s potential impact on the environment and local wildlife, traffic, visual amenity, and the subsequent reduction of public open space.

URBNSURF Perth is expected to attract close to 300,000 visitors a year to its 2.4ha lagoon.

The park, proposed for the existing Melville Bowling and Recreation Club site, will accommodate all forms of surf craft including body boards, stand-up paddleboards, surfboards and body surfers.

Wave Park Group, the company behind URBNSURF Perth, has proposed that the 22 million litres of water required to replenish evaporation be renewably sourced from an existing groundwater allocation at Tompkins Park that would otherwise be used for irrigation.

The sausage sizzle will be held at 240 Burke Drive, on the corner of Lentona Street, in Attadale, from 7.30am to 1pm.
