A FIVE-STOREY high mural has been added to the Canning Bridge Precinct by renowned Polish artist Bezt (Mateusz Gapski).

The City of Melville commissioned Bezt to paint the artwork on the east-facing wall of Canning Highway’s Sails Apartments.

Bezt, one half of creative duo Etam Cru, is known internationally for his use of colour and his depictions of people.

His concept for the Applecross portrait of a young woman was love at first sight, something that would “capture the certainty, connection and calm that accompanies love”.

Bezt was one of three artists short-listed to present designs for a piece the City hopes will be a popular addition to the Perth mural scene.

The graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz has work on walls all over the world including Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, the United States and his native Poland.

The City said the mural supports the community’s vision for public art that highlights its landmarks, neighbourhoods, heritage and diversity.

The City did not say how much the commission cost.
