APPLECROSS Senior High School has been named Best Poetic High School in Australia as part of the national Dorothea MacKellar Poetry Awards.

English teacher Veronica Lake said there was a long tradition of students realising they were poets while attending Applecross SHS.

“The school has a dedicated staff of English teachers who value language and its manifold implications, sounds and patterns,” she said.

“These teachers encourage students to find their poetic voices and to speak out.”
