The bikes, which belonged to Mr Murphy’s children Jack (16) and Sarah (9), were stolen in the early hours of Monday, January 25 while the family were asleep.

Mr Murphy said the bikes were kept in a shed at the back of his property and the family had not had any security issues at their Melville home in the past 20 years.

“It’s your house and you don’t think anyone will actually walk all the way through your back yard to the shed and wheel away a pair of bikes,” he said.

“This happening has made me realise you can’t take anything for granted and I’d definitely advise everybody to lock everything up.”

Mr Murphy said his kids were devastated at the loss of the bikes, a red Honda CRF50 and blue Yamaha TT-R230 with a combined value of around $5000.

“My parents live up at Jurien Bay and we’d always take the bikes with us up there for holidays,” he said.

“It’s especially hard for Jack because a few of his friends have bikes as well and he’d go away on weekends with them riding.

“We actually used the bikes a lot in the school holidays and I think the thieves must have seen us loading or unloading and then followed us home.”

Mr Murphy asks that anybody who might have seen the motorcycles contact him on 0428 899 060 or go directly to the police.
