A LOCAL bakery has solidified its claim to having the country’s best mince pie after taking out a national title for a second straight year.
Oven Crisp Bakery, which has outlets in Bull Creek and Riverton, was named winner of the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition’s plain pie category in Sydney.
Owner Tommy Nguyen said there was a lot of pressure after the bakery won the same award 12 months earlier.

READ NOW“The first time I won I was not sure if the pie was good or bad, but the second time you know or feel that it is very good,” he said.
“There was a lot of pressure because before we didn’t have anything to lose.
“This time, there were more competitors, more competition. It was very stressful because there was a lot to lose.”
Mr Nguyen said the filling in his 2017 entry had stayed the same to his winning entry 12 months earlier.
The main change, prompted by feedback from the judges in 2016, was a crispier bottom and fluffier pastry topping.
The pies are popular, with more than 2000 picked up by hungry customers each week.
