The night under the stars on Booragoon Oval is run in conjunction with The Fathering Project, a WA-based organisation that champions fathers spending more time with their children.

Organiser Paul Buckman said the event was a chance for fathers to bond not only with their children but also with each other.

“We set up all the tents in a big horseshoe around the outside of the oval,” he said.

“The kids run around and play in the middle of all the tents and we’ve also got a camp fire where they can roast marshmallows.

“It’s a time for you as a dad to be with your kids but also to meet and interact with some of the other dads from the school.”

In the morning, a group of mums will take over while the dads attend a presentation by The Fathering Project.

“One of the presenters from The Fathering Project comes in and we talk to the dads about the events we do for the rest of the year,” Mr Buckman said.

“We also talk about how you can become more involved at Booragoon Primary and there is generally also a particular fathering message that is relevant for the time.”

The Dad’s Camp Out costs $35 per family and is open to all fathers with children from kindergarten to Year 6 at Booragoon Primary.
