Cancer Council WA Ultimate Lifestyle Lottery boasts North Fremantle penthouse as top prize

CANCER stole Emma Duggan’s father from her when she was just a teenager.

Now, the interior designer has dedicated her time and expertise to help fight back against the disease.

Co-directors of Akiva Designs, Mrs Duggan and Ann Morris are responsible for the styling and fit-out of the penthouse apartment that tops the list of prizes in the Cancer Council WA’s Ultimate Lifestyle Lottery.

The pair provided their services free of charge and spent three weeks perfecting the interior of the $1.6 million North Fremantle apartment.

Mrs Duggan’s father died of pancreatic cancer when she was 19-years-old.

“Dad was diagnosed when I was 16 and his battle lasted two and a half years. After he passed away I did some volunteer work for the Cancer Council selling daffodils,” she said.

“Fighting cancer is a cause close to everyone’s heart so when the opportunity to complete the fit-out for the apartment came along it was an easy decision.”

Mrs Duggan said the interior boasted an organic palette based around textures with subtle colours to complement the views.

“The apartment has two balconies, the one out from the open plan kitchen and living area overlooking the ocean and the second out from the bedrooms with views of the gardens and river,” she said.

Cancer Council WA chief executive Susan Rooney said the lottery, which features 6670 prizes, would help the organisation increase its reach and impact in the community.

“There are more people living longer with cancer and more people being diagnosed with cancer, which means there is a growing demand for Cancer Council services,” Ms Rooney said.

“The proceeds from the lottery will allow us to continue to grow our services and our investment in world class cancer research leading to improved quality of care and access to cutting edge treatment and ultimately bringing us closer to the day when we can live in a cancer-free world.”

Tickets are now on sale and prizes include luxury vehicles, overseas and local getaways, entertainment systems and home appliances.

There are also three cash bonus prizes of $100,000 for tickets bought before Wednesday.

Winners of the bonus prizes will stay in the running for the major prize of the fully furnished $1.59 million luxury penthouse apartment plus a BMW X1 and $20,000 cash.
