Arthur and Violet Carbon celebrated their 73rd year of marriage during the Christmas break.

LONG-TIME Melville residents Arthur and Violet Carbon recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary surrounded by their family of six children, 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

The couple spent 70 years in the Melville area after moving to Bicton from South Fremantle to raise their then young family.

Since then they have also lived in Booragoon and in the last few months moved from their home in Bateman to a granny flat in Canning Vale.

The couple, who are both in their mid-90s, met as teenagers while working and dancing in the Fremantle area.

Mr Carbon first wooed Mrs Carbon with the aid of musk lollies and he attributes the longevity of their marriage to him always saying yes, while his wife believes a large family is the secret to happiness.

The extended family celebrated Christmas in the traditional way – with Mr Carbon donning the Christmas suit and Mrs Carbon among the many to sit on his knee.
