‘Just like mum and grandy, I always felt that I wanted to take care of others,’ Ms Coventry said.

‘What I really enjoy about being here is the holistic approach to care.’

A colleague nominated her for the award but the other nurses and managers have also recognised her achievements.

‘Melissa is an exceptional patient advocate and is certainly a worthy nominee for an award that recognises outstanding performance,’ Murdoch director of nursing Adam Coleman said.

Ms Coventry is one of five finalists for Outstanding Graduate Nurse of the Year at the HESTA Australian Nursing Awards. The winner will be named on May 9.
