GET outside and get active, for free, with outdoor fitness classes starting this week in local suburbs.

Active in the Park will offer free exercise sessions in Applecross and Alfred Cove until March 2016.

As part of the Healthy Melville initiative, the weekly classes are designed to suit all levels of fitness and offer a fun and social way to keep fit in local open spaces.

The morning and evening sessions will include cross training and yoga, run by qualified trainers and instructors from local LeisureFit centres.

The Healthy Melville RoadStars will also travel around the City of Melville, encouraging the community to adopt healthy lifestyles by providing practical information.

The free outdoor exercise classes, for people 16 years and over, will run twice a week, with functional fitness classes on Monday evenings, 6pm to 6.45pm at Tompkins Park in Alfred Cove.

Yoga classes will be held every Saturday morning, starting this weekend, at Jeff Joseph Reserve on the Applecross foreshore, from 7am to 7.45am.

Additional classes, including pilates, will begin in January 2016. For more information and to register for a class visit www.melvillecity.com.au/active.
