THE City of Melville has revealed the winner of its first Instagram fur baby competition – Shane Allchurch and his fluffy feline friend Bobby.

The competition aimed to remind and encourage cat and dog owners to register or renew their pets’ registration.

To enter the competition, members of the public were asked to upload their favourite photo of their pets to Instagram with the hashtags #furbabyrego2016 and #melvillecity.

Mr Allchurch collected a $100 City Farmers voucher for his winning shot.

City of Melville Deputy Mayor Rebecca Aubrey said there were an overwhelming number of entrants to the competition and choosing a winner was difficult.

“Out of all of the great photographs we received from the community, Bobby the cat’s image really stood out; Bobby looked very cute and content in a baby bassinette,” she said.

“Mr Allchurch, was a truly deserving winner of the competition having adopted Bobby from Cat Haven, as well as registering his pet cat with the City.

“With the Christmas season coming up, pets are often a common gift; just remember, where possible to ‘adopt not shop’ and ensure your new puppy, dog, kitten or cat is booked in to the vet to be fitted for a microchip and then register them with the City.”
