CLOSE to 250 artworks are on display at this year’s City of Melville Annual Art Awards exhibition, which opens to the public on Saturday, August 26.
The free exhibition showcases the works of both established and emerging West Australians, including a number of entries from Melville residents.
Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the annual event offered the community the opportunity to explore their interest in the arts in an informal setting.
“The City’s Annual Art Awards exhibition makes it possible to view the works of 250 creative minds under the one roof, from emerging artists and students to seasoned exhibitors.
“With such a diverse collection of works, the show has a far-reaching appeal. Most of the artworks are available for purchase, so you may find yourself adding to your own art collection or indeed making your first investment.”
Artworks cover a range of mediums including paintings, works on paper, small sculptural works, textile and new media, and will be judged by industry professionals, who will award total prize monies of $14,000.
The 2017 Art Awards exhibition runs from August 26 to September 3 at the City of Melville Civic Centre.
The exhibition’s closing weekend coincides with the City’s inaugural Open Studios and Exhibitions Trail, with 24 studios, galleries, creative spaces and artist-run initiatives opening their doors to the public.
