PEOPLE looking to blow into a flute or bang a drum are being invited into the Leeming Area Community Band’s second training band.

The organisation’s first training band started two years ago and its players have advanced to more complex music, meaning beginners would not be able to fit in.

Committee member Tony Louden said there was no fixed number for a concert band, but ideally it would have at least one of every type of instrument.

“A full concert band has flutes, clarinets, saxophones, oboe, bassoon, trumpets, trombones, tuba, euphonium, French horns and percussion, he said.

“Our senior concert band has 47 members. However at the training stage we do not expect the more complex and rarer instruments to be available, so a more modest line up is our hope.

“Our existing training band has about 25 members which cover the main instruments and this figure would be ideal for our new training band.”

The new training band will rehearse once per week on Saturday mornings at the Leeming Senior High School Performing Arts Centre, with a few performances outside those times.
