The club celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and the Kardinya couple, who still play at the local institution twice a week, have been instrumental in organising the celebrations, set for November 14.
The family that plays together stays together and Chris met Nola (nee Chamberlain) at the club 50 years ago as teenagers.
They immediately struck up a friendship after realising they also shared a passion for ballroom dance.
Chris asked Nola to accompany him to a friend’s wedding and the rest is history; next month they celebrate 43 years of marriage.
Back in those days, the club was a community hub and would regularly have 100 people playing each weekend in summer. Its popularity was a result of the amalgamation of the Melville and Palmyra tennis clubs, which operated independently prior to their 1964 union.
Chris, a life member, has held every committee position available over the years and with Nola, well known for her reliability and culinary talents in the kitchen, now concentrates on organising the club’s social calendar.
Two of their oldest friends, Helen Groves (nee West) and Faith Scorer (nee Davey), are also club founding members.
The 2014-15 season began earlier this month and with nine grass courts and five all weather courts, new members are always welcome.
