The 42-year lease was authorised by council last week, with Dome committing to constructing a new cafe and community pavilion facility capable of seating in excess of 250 patrons.

The new Dome will replace Deep Water Point Cafe, which was paying the City of Melville $28,000 per annum.

Aware that the City was negotiating terms of a new lease with Dome, Deep Water Point Cafe shut its door permanently in July after 6½ years of operation.

Three public submissions objecting to the City granting the lease to Dome were received, all three expressing a preference for an independent cafe at the site.

An estimated opening date for the new Dome is yet to be announced but a variety of food trucks will service Deep Water Point Reserve in the interim.
