The Applecross Senior High School student has type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes but gets on with life like any other teenager while also striving to raise funds for research into juvenile diabetes.

Last year, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 2012/13 National Young Volunteer of the Year raised more than $10,000 for the cause and aims to do the same, if not better, this year.

She is again preparing to participate in the Walk to Cure Diabetes on October 13, in between four two-hour weekly swimming sessions with the state development squad at Melville Recreation Centre.

The Murdoch resident will also be presented with her national volunteering award at the event.
