WHETHER you are in the market for a coffee, carnivorous plant or Christmas card, Myaree’s eclectic new nursery Down the Garden Path has you covered.

The novel venture is the culmination of years of planning by mother and daughter owners Fay and Lauren Ferguson, passionate gardeners who walked away from their previous careers to pursue their dream.

“Mum’s a nurse and I’m a vet nurse but we’ve both been after a nursery for a while,” Miss Ferguson said.

“We’re not getting any younger and at Christmas an amazing location in Myaree came up and we decided to go for it.

“I’ve also got a two-year-old daughter and owning the store means I can just bring her to work with me.”

After six weeks of renovation, Down the Garden Path opened in mid-July.

The nursery is currently well stocked with indoor plants and succulents but Miss Ferguson said she was hoping to branch out in the near future.

“We’re going to have a focus on the rare and unusual,” she said.

“You can go to Bunnings to get stock standards and I have a big interest in carnivorous plants so hopefully we’ll get some of them in soon.”

Aside from plants, Down the Garden Path also offers coffee and cakes and contains a selection of homewares, some of which have been produced by Melville artists.

“We want to support local artists as much as possible and we’re always happy to have a chat with anyone that has something to sell,” Miss Ferguson said.
