Disability employment service provider BIZLINK presented the small goods company with a corporate partnership award in July for its continued inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce.
BIZLINK is funded by the Federal Governments Department of Social Services to assist people with disabilities to secure and maintain long-term employment.
Sean Deasy, BIZLINKs job search co-ordinator, first approached DOrsogna in 2001 at a Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA function.
Not long after, DOrsogna employed Patrick Cheyne, who has been with the company for nearly 13 years and was one of the first employed.
What I like about DOrsogna is they go above and beyond in terms of accommodating peoples needs when it came to hours, pay, leave, travel, time off due to illness or special needs; they were very flexible, Mr Deasy said.
Many organisations talk of community involvement or use terms like social capital or corporate social responsibility; most of the time its just talk. DOrsogna have realistic values and genuinely care about their community, and not just profit or personal gain.
Another employee who is celebrating 10 years with DOrsogna is factory hand Clint Hayward, who is one of three workers with a disability employed at the company.
