FAMILIES will be the beneficiaries with a number of parks around Melville undergoing transformations.

Synthetic turf at Kadidjiny Park on Kitchener Road is being replaced with the three weeks of work starting this Monday.

City of Melville chief executive Marten Tieleman said the turf needed replacing due to natural ageing, wear and tear.

“The current synthetic turf is approximately 10 years old and experiences high wear,” he said.

“While the surface has been patched over in the last few years to increase its lifespan, it has now reached the stage that replacing the whole turf area will provide a safer and more aesthetic outcome.

“This is also more economical in the long term.

“Once the renewed synthetic turf is in place it will restore the well-loved and familiar blue mounds that are so unique to Kadidjiny Park for another 10 years or so, refreshing the aesthetic vibrancy of the park.”

Douglas Freeman Park in Leeming and Bill Sweet Park in Alfred Cove are getting new equipment this week, with work scheduled to finish on Friday.

“Both play spaces will be renewed with similar size and style equipment, within the existing sand pits,” Mr Tieleman said.

About 10 playgrounds across Melville score a spruce up each year, with equates to each being renewed about every 15 years.
