Isabella Whitcher (3) was just six-weeks-old when her anxious parents rushed her to the hospital after noticing a change in her breathing and a blue tinge to her skin.
Fortunately, Isabella was quickly diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and, after admission to monitor her kidneys and treat the sleep apnoea she was experiencing, doctors were able to give her a clean bill of health.
Now mum Renee Whitcher is encouraging people to support the vital work of Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) by buying a teddy.
Friday, May 31, is Wear a Bear Day, an annual fundraiser for the hospital, and Mrs Whitcher said it was a small way that she could express her gratitude to the staff of PMH.
‘We’ve been supporting PMH since they cared for Isabella so wonderfully and we’ll continue to do so via Wear a Bear Day and other initiatives organised by the Foundation,’ she said.
Plush grab bears and felt finger puppets for Wear a Bear Day will be available at shopping centres throughout May and volunteers will be out in force on May 31.
