PRIMARY schools are cashing in on compulsory voting by hosting fundraisers from sausage sizzles to book stalls this election day.

Many school Parents and Citizens associations have also booked coffee vans for July 2.

Applecross Primary School P&C president Elaine O’Sullivan said fundraising opportunities were otherwise limited to the school community.

“Last year we raised $3000 for the library and this year we are fundraising for a series of Naturescape playgrounds designed by the students,” she said.

This will be the third election fundraiser held at the school.

“It is a great way for the rest of the community to contribute,” she said.

“We will have bacon and egg rolls, sausages in a bun, soft drinks and water.”

Booragoon Primary will offer similar, plus a cake stall, coffee, and produce from its sustainable garden including pestos and jams.

Mt Pleasant Primary School will offer a sausage sizzle, cake stall and second hand bookstall.
