Fiona Stanley Hospital clinical nurse consultant named finalist in WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellent Awards

A CLINICAL nurse consultant in Fiona Stanley Hospital’s oncology department has been named a WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards (WANMEA) finalist.

Barbara O’Callaghan is among three nominees up for the Excellence in Registered Nursing category.

Ms O’Callaghan has been a nurse for close to 30 years.

“I help navigate (patients) through a very difficult time in their life, get them through treatment and all the complications,” she said.

“When they are finished and life is returning to normal, I know what I have done has made a difference in their life.”

Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group’ executive director Janet Zagari said Ms O’Callaghan was an asset to the team and her patients.

Suki Loe, a nurse director of informatics and mental health nurse Mandy Major are two other WANMEA finalists from the South Metropolitan Health Service.

Winners will be announced May 12.
