LeisureFit Competition Swim is a partnership between the City of Melville aquatic centre and the South Shore Swimming Club, creating a grassroots program for potential Olympic swimmers.

The program, which will have an emphasis on preparing for swim meets, is structured to ensure the best possible training opportunities, swim facilities and coaching for participants.

Mr Twomey has nearly 20 years of competitive swimming coaching experience.

He is a competitive swimmer, silver accredited coach – with experience in the UK, Sydney, Perth, Queensland and Ireland – and holds a Masters of Education degree in sports coaching.

He has also coached several West Australian record-holders across multiple events and age groups.

Mr Twomey said competitive swimming was perceived as being solely about chasing personal best times and winning medals, but his philosophy was based around having fun while striving for improvement.

“It’s not about the destination, it’s the journey that counts,” he said.
