Headed up by Sergeant Gary Thwaites, the team wants to meet locals in Willagee to discuss their concerns about crime at a special event next Tuesday.

‘We are very serious about tackling crime in Willagee and we are keen to discuss any issues of a police nature,’ Sgt Thwaites said.

He said people could also share information with police confidentially.

Some arrests had already been made using public tip-offs along with the team’s own intelligence.

Sgt Thwaites said recent arrests had related to drug-dealing, traffic matters, outstanding warrants, stealing, fraud, weapons matters and domestic violence.

‘This will be ongoing and we will be proactively targeting known offenders,’ Sgt Thwaites said.

The team has built a steady following on Twitter, tweeting with the hashtag #newsherriffintown to keep followers up to date with local crime.

‘We understand that crime is a big concern in Willagee and this is an opportunity for people to voice their concerns one-on-one with police officers who know the area,’ he said.
