Give dance a chance

Michele NugentMelville Gazette

Men and women don't dance together anymore. In fact, dancing, especially partner dancing, is no longer an ordinary social activity to be taken for granted.

Whether the thought of dancing with strangers thrills or terrifies, locals now have the chance to try it as I did, with lessons now in Melville.

Ceroc Perth, which teaches a simple dance commonly known as the modern jive, has run popular weekly lessons and social dance sessions every Tuesday and Thursday in Mt Lawley, and Wednesday at Kallaroo, for years.

Its expansion to Melville Bowling Club in Alfred Cove will be its first foray south.

And just because the lessons are at the bowling club does not mean it's just for the older folk; teens and men and women of all ages dance each week at the various venues.

Local instructors Justin Ritchie and Nikky Button, and their legion of "taxi" dancers, will have you spinning on the dance floor before you even realise your cholesterol has plummeted and your endorphins have multiplied.THE ESSENTIALS
